Exhibition: Hague/ Lancaster / Pavlidis / Ricardo @ Queenscliff Gallery and Workshop

Queenscliff Gallery and Workshop celebrates the spirit of mateship and collaboration in its June exhibition of works by Robert Hague, Peter Lancaster, Jim Pavlidis and Geoffrey Ricardo.

Hailing from the western suburbs of Melbourne and friends for decades, artists Robert Hague, Peter Lancaster, Jim Pavlidis and Geoffrey Ricardo work across a variety of disciplines, including sculpture, drawing, print-making and lithography.

Sculptor Robert Hague tells his stories on broken porcelain plates and cracked artefacts, juxtaposing deliberate delicacy and random shards to illustrate the personal and political.

Lithographer Peter Lancaster prints for the best of our Australian artists but is not known to exhibit his own work …. until now. In a rare appearance, Peter’s four prints reveal his mastery of the medium.

Proud westie and celebratedAgecartoonist Jim Pavlidis pays homage to his upbringing, and his mates, in’ScrayHousesand individual portraits.

Figurative expressionist printmaker and sculptor Geoffrey Ricardo, well known for his Kororoit Creek Trail figures and surrealist elephants, will exhibit his intriguing prints of stuffed toy bears.

The four men’s friendship and artistic expression are forged in continuity: their homes, studio environments and materials are testimony to timelessness and resilience – a bulwark against the ‘advances’ of technology (with the exception of phones and Instagram!), and proof that living and working without succumbing to unnecessary change is still possible.
